tour #1 – the last three days

…rollin’ over Germany – the last three days

day four

I was sleeping like a log and only came to myself when MADDIASS woke me up. Since it was almost noon it was really time to get started.

After having changed my route the day before AUGSBURG was the aim for this day. But at first, MADDIASS and I wanted to explore the region around DARMSTADT a bit. Of course, we did it with his OPEL MANTA A from the year 1972 which he really does love dearly.

A bit south of DARMSTADT there is a castle carrying a name everyone has probably heard: BURG FRANKENSTEIN. Its connection to MARY SHELLEY and her novel „Frankenstein or the Modern Prometheus“ may be in contestation, but people like to claim the castle to be its namesake.

Visually, the castle does not offer much to be honest, so I held myself back as far as taking photos was concerned. Nevertheless, it is a beautiful place with an astonishing view which happens to be not creepy at all.

Following this, I continued my journey South. There were still a few hours of driving left until AUGSBURG. My friends JAMES HUNNICUTT and PHILIP BRADATSCH were on their Europe tour at that time and thus I chose their concert that day as a meeting for my FACE THE JUGEND tour. Unfortunately, I had to realize that the TURBOJUGEND in that region does not happen to be as spontaneous as myself. Although a few contacts had been established, nobody made it to the concert due to lack of time. That way I was able to enjoy a relaxed evening with a few good friends. Of course, I did not take a break from photographing. The pictures from the concert are HERE.

day five

…this day was basically my off-day. All I did was going to JAMES’ and PHILIP’S concert again which I did not really announce in the first place. I only took a few pictures there and did not do much since I had to catch a breath before it got down to business the following day.

day six

#007-000

…catching a breath worked out well for me but I am still not there yet since I did not get much sleep and the heat is holding on. So today it’s MUNICH time for the last stop of the tour. The first gathering place was the TOLLWOOD Festival which I had attended as a invited artist last December. So after having said “Hi!” to a bunch of lovely people I met up with FRÄNKY LOVE and BOBA BLITZBEER from TURBOJUGEND HOLLEDAU. “Holledau” is the Bavarian expression for “Hallertau” (how we would pronounce it in High German). It happens to be the biggest hop-growing area on a stretch in the world and is located north of MUNICH. So it’s no wonder the two gentlemen treated themselves to a beer or two in the first place.

TURBOJUGEND HOLLEDAU was established in 2004 already. In 2012, a new generation of TURBOJUGENDLICHE took over the inactive chapter, including the old – now mostly inactive members – instead of founding a new one. The chapter consists of 15 members, six of which are active nowadays.

At the TOLLWOOD, HERR VORRAGEND, President of TURBOJUGEND BAYRISCH HELL, joined our company. Originally, he hails from ROSENHEIM and also used to be a member of TURBOJUGEND ROSENHEIM. Although the chapter does not exist anymore, he put on its Kutte especially for today’s occasion.

We enjoyed a few more drinks while appreciating the wonderful summer weather and then started out for SCHWARZER HAHN.

The SCHWARZE HAHN is a pub not far away from the Isar. It is a cool place which is being frequented quite often by the Munich Jugends. It was here that MO, President of TURBOJUGEND HAIDHAUSEN joined us. HAIDHAUSEN is a district of MUNICH which considers itself closely connected to the city’s allegedly smaller football club 1860 MÜNCHEN. Or at least this applies to the members of TURBOJUGEND HAIDHAUSEN who not only are using the colors of the SECHZGER (colloquial for the fans of 1860 München) for their patches but also the Sechzger Lion can be seen on them. But basically, MO does not really take it seriously. Everyone is welcome to join his Jugend as long as they are a good match.

I have no idea whether there is such a thing as a fundamental Bavarian cozy atmosphere or if it was just the joy of drinking beer…anyway, it took us quite a while until we finally got to the Isar’s riverside nearby where it started dawning earlier than I liked it to.

What could be easily misunderstood in the following pictures is actually a traditional way of taking a pinch of snuff. Snuff has been known to Europe since the 17. century. SCHMALZLER, a specialty which has been developed in Bavaria, is spread all over the South of Germany, Austria and the German part of Switzerland nowadays. This way of tobacco consumption allows the nicotine to unfold its effect directly via the nasal mucosa. The sort of SCHMALZLER our gentleman are taking here contains menthol in order to avoid a blocked nose.

While night was falling more and more we got a few female visitors. JOOLZ GOLD from TURBOJUGEND MONACO and SWEETHEART OF THE RODEO from TURBOJUGEND MÜNCHEN provided us with new faces.

BRETT LARGO, the President of both chapters, is living in beautiful HAMBURG nowadays and thus could not be with us that day. He was, however, present at the very first FACE THE JUGEND appointment FAMILY FIRST at Schlemmereck and had his picture taken there. Originally, BRETT is from the TURBOJUGEND ALLGÄU which he had founded in 2003 but has given over to control its fate to a younger generation. Following his relocation to MUNICH he founded the chapter MONACO. MONACO being the Italian expression for Munich with Munich often being regarded as Italy’s most northern city. That is why MONACO is a common term for Munich’s inhabitants. Since TURBOJUGEND MÜNCHEN used to be very much inactive, BRETT also took over its fate in 2014 and became its new President as well. By now, MONACO has developed into a huge transregional Jugend whereas MÜNCHEN is clearly situated in the city and can be seen as an umbrella association for all the local Jugends. That is why MO, for example, is also a member of TURBOJUGEND MÜNCHEN.

After a few exercises in order to ease the tension the shooting went just perfectly well. Everyone got into their strides and went a little bit crazy in the end. The girls took the words I GOT A KNIFE a little bit too literally and wanted to cut off MO’s beard. At the end everyone loved each other again and so we took a superselfie.

Now we actually had to say goodbye but the underpass nearby offered too good a setting that I could not let unused. In addition to that, it encouraged a young gentleman to execute an athletic performance.

Here, the first FACE THE JUGEND tour has come to an end. I am going to draw a veil of silence over the chaos and turmoil of my way back home.

2069 kilometers and 21:40 hours of driving have been made. Thanks to everyone who has supported me on this tour in one way or another. All of this would have never been possible without you. Also thank you for all the presents and the care you took of me. Now my plan is to take some rest before I go back into the world.

Ahoi! from Hamburg
